Never Were
People ask what inspires me to write. The simplest answer is “what if”. What if Trixie and Jim broke up and then found each other again years later? Maybe Sleepyside Bytes. What if Katje Frayne didn’t marry Jones and didn’t die? Alternate Imaginings.
Memorial Day 2014, I had nothing better to do than bounce around Jix and do some writing. Unfortunately, none of my stories were talking to me so I was puttering around, bouncing between old favorites. I ended up reading stories like the Smush Sister’s Twist of Fate and wondered what if the girls didn’t find Jim at the end of The Red Trailer Mystery, or Pam (PS9906)’s Fiery Hearts series and wondering what if the Bob-Whites didn’t all meet until college, reading Julia (Juliastoz)’s It’s a Honeyful Life and thinking about what if the Bob-Whites never were, and maybe even revisiting part of Misty’s TriXXXie, and wondering what if Moms was a little overbearing? With that many what ifs, how could I not write a story?
In fact, it turns out to be not just one story, but the start of a universe with seven (eight!) back stories. Welcome to Never Were.
